How can we help?

Answers for parents, children and catechists.

Getting started

Is Catholic Sunday School free?

Yes. Every class book, lesson, video and prayer is free to use. A free account is optional.

Who is it for?

Children aged 5 to 11 and the people who teach them: parents, grandparents, godparents, catechists and parish Sunday schools.

Which class should my child start with?

Pick the book for your child's school year, from Kindergarten to Grade 5. You can open any book at any time, so younger children can look ahead and older children can review.

Do we need an account?

No. Anyone can start learning straight away, and progress is saved in the browser you are using. Clearing that browser's data would erase it. With a free account your stars, badges and progress are also saved to your account, so you can carry on from any phone, tablet or computer.

Lessons

How do the class books work?

There is one book for each class from Kindergarten to Grade 5, and each book has eight lessons. Every lesson follows the same five steps: Watch (when there is a video), Read, Remember, Quiz, and Pray & do.

How long does a lesson take?

About ten minutes. Short lessons fit into a busy week: after school, before bed, or as part of Sunday.

My child can't read yet. Can they still learn?

Yes. Press "Read to me" and the story is read aloud while the words are highlighted. You can also make the text bigger with the A+ button next to the story.

Can I print a lesson?

Yes. Every lesson has a Print button that prints the story, the flip cards, the quiz and the prayer on paper, which is handy for a class or a family evening.

Faith & teaching

Are the lessons faithful to Church teaching?

Every lesson is drawn from the Catechism of the Catholic Church and Sacred Scripture, and lists the paragraph numbers and Bible passages it uses so parents and catechists can read more.

What are the four pillars?

The Catechism has four parts: what we Believe, how we Celebrate the sacraments, how we Live as followers of Jesus, and how we Pray. Each lesson belongs to one of them.

Can our parish or Sunday school use it?

Yes, and you are very welcome to. The content is shared under a Creative Commons CC BY 4.0 licence unless noted otherwise, so you can use it in class with credit.

Which languages are available?

The class books are in English. The Jesus Wonder animated Bible stories are available in English, German and Malayalam.

Stars & progress

How do stars and badges work?

Children earn stars for every step they finish: watching, reading, quizzes and prayers all count. As stars add up they grow from a Mustard Seed to the Light of the World, and they collect badges along the way.

Is progress saved?

Yes, automatically. Without an account it is saved in the browser on the device you use. When you sign in, anything you did before is added to your account, and from then on it follows you to any device.

Can siblings share one device?

Progress is saved per account, so the simplest way is to give each child their own free account and sign in before each lesson.

More questions

What is Eternal Life?

Eternal life is living forever with God in heaven, sharing His love and joy. Jesus promised it to everyone who believes in Him and follows Him: "I am the resurrection and the life" (John 11:25). It begins now, through Baptism and friendship with Jesus, and is fulfilled in heaven (Catechism 1020–1029).

Who is God?

God is our loving Father who made everything that exists. There is one God in three Persons: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. We call this the Holy Trinity (Catechism 232–260).

Who is Jesus?

Jesus is the Son of God who became man, born of the Virgin Mary. He died on the cross to save us from sin and rose again on Easter Sunday so that we could live with God forever (Catechism 422–451).

What is a sacrament?

A sacrament is a holy sign given by Jesus through which God gives us His grace. There are seven: Baptism, Confirmation, the Eucharist, Penance, Anointing of the Sick, Holy Orders and Matrimony (Catechism 1113–1134).

Why do we go to Mass on Sunday?

Sunday is the day Jesus rose from the dead. At Mass we listen to God's Word, give thanks, and receive Jesus in Holy Communion. Keeping Sunday holy is one of the Ten Commandments (Catechism 2174–2183).

What is prayer?

Prayer is talking and listening to God, like spending time with a best friend. We can pray with our own words or with prayers like the Our Father and the Hail Mary, anytime and anywhere (Catechism 2559–2565).

What is sin?

Sin is choosing to do something we know is wrong, which hurts our friendship with God and others. God always forgives us when we are truly sorry, especially in the sacrament of Confession (Catechism 1846–1853).

Who is Mary?

Mary is the mother of Jesus and our mother too. God chose her to bring Jesus into the world. We honour her and ask her to pray for us, as in the Hail Mary (Catechism 963–975).
